Wednesday work
Today we are working on the steel tubes that will become the foundation of the second floor of the new building. We have been welding, and cleaning concrete, and making places for electrical conduits to run. It has been a very hot day, so we are drinking plenty of liquids.
Our Bible school has been attended by just a few children, but we have had a good time. Yesterday it rained so hard on the metal roof that we couldn’t hear one another speaking. We spent a long time doing crafts, and they ate up all the snacks we had and requested more.
Please pray forteam unity and for safety! See below for a link to our group’s pictures.
Monday Work
Monday was full of new things like mixing concrete and Bible school in the new sanctuary. We accomplished a lot of work, pouring concrete for almost half of the second story. At the end of the day, we were a little sore but proud of the work that we did and happy to have stomachs full of milkshakes. Please keep praying for the team and also for the local church here. Enjoy the video of some hard workers, below.
Sunday morning worship
We enjoyed watching liturgical dance at the church worship service this morning. Laura Torres choreographs the dances for the team and many women and some men participate.
The guest preacher was very passionate about his message of reconciliation.
After church, we ate lunch at a food mall and then enjoyed an afternoon of recreation.
Below are two videos of our service, the bottom one with music from the service, the top with music which is not from the service. All of the music this morning was in Spanish, but even though we could not understand the words, we all felt moved by the same Spirit.
Working on the Old Sanctuary
This afternoon, the team divided up and worked on several different parts of the new project. Some of us built wooden forms for the second story of the new multi-purpose building. These forms will be filled with concrete some time next week.
Others on the team prepared steel beams, which will be used as the foundation of the floor for the second story. Others mowed grass or found other jobs to do. Our day wrapped up with a delicious meal of chicken with cream sauce, rice, beans, tortillas, and fruit. We walked to the “centro” after dinner and enjoyed milkshakes and people-watching. Enjoy the video of some of our work below.
Cleaning the Old Sanctuary
Day one started out with overcast skies and a cool breeze, which made our hard work much easier. The old sanctuary that had been a project of the 2000 team to start, was partly demolished, with rubble from the roof and walls inside and around it. Our first job was to clear all that rubble, so we filled wheelbarrows and moved it to another area of the church grounds, then swept the area. Supplies were delivered to start the process of creating a new multi-purpose building on the existing foundation, and we will begin that work in the afternoon, after a delicious spaghetti lunch. Thanks for your prayers and good thoughts, all is going well. See below for a link to some pictures, and enjoy the video of our morning’s work.
Arrival
Our flights to Costa Rica were uneventful, we were prepared for some turbulence coming into Daniel Oduber Quiros airport, but it turned out to be nothing frightening. We got off the plane to a small rain shower. When we arrived at Fuente de Gracia, the congregation was in the middle of a worship service, which was a wonderful greeting for those of us who had been to the church in previous years. We walked to town to stretch our legs and enjoyed our first milkshakes of the trip! We are so glad to be back, and hope the first-timers are looking forward to a great week. Enjoy the short video below.
Send-Off Dinner
The team enjoyed a meal together in the FUMC gym. Click the link below for a few pictures.
